Research

My research focuses on using genomics to study Chlamydia.  This work has led to the characterization of ilp as an expressed gene without an associated phenotype or protein.  My current research is a comparative genomic analysis of two wildtype C. abortus strains and a vaccine strain to identify the mechanism of attenuation.

Research Techniques

Genomics, RT-PCR, Immunoblot Analysis

Personal History

As an undergrad, I attended St. Mary's College of Maryland, where I received my B.A. in Biology in 1998.  I then came to the University of Maryland and received my Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology in 2004.  I have since been a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Patrik Bavoil.
